Year 3!!

Although this year was not quite as exciting as last years trip to a fun new city, it was a wonderful celebration of 5/5! Relaxed and busy at the same time, and sprinkled with the perfect amount of Abe the babe.

Our first anniversary we decided to go to Acqua, a restaurant a few miles north of us right on White Bear Lake. It was phenomenal, and we said that would be our anniversary tradition. Well, year 2 sent us to Denver instead, but we knew we had to continue on with our tradition.

Best decision ever.

Jade came over to watch the munchkin so that we could go out the weekend before our anniversary. I had a little trick up my sleeve and asked Jade to come out to the deck to take a picture of us. Zach's wedding ring no longer fits and is not re-sizable so he's been going without a wedding ring since he lost the weight last April. I purchased him a new ring and re-proposed! He was confused and very surprised. We love his new ring. (And, he said YES, lol).

We headed to Big Wood Brewery, a spot we've been to a hundred times since it opened last February, but realized this was the first time we'd been there without Abe. Crazy. We each had a beer, rather giddily, and headed to Acqua.

We splurged more than we intended to but had a marvelous dinner overlooking White Bear Lake. I had 2 glasses of a delicious South American white wine, Zach continued with more Big Wood beer. For an appetizer we had beef carpaccio, which was melt in your mouth thinly sliced raw beef with an amazing horseradish ricotta cheese side. I had the best beet salad I've ever had-beets, fried goat cheese, mixed greens. Mmmm.

For our main courses I had a Ossobuco, a braised pork shank with sweet potato, and Zach had some crazy good lamb lollipops. Oh my goodness, the sauce on that lamb. Yum.

My meal came with dessert, which is the same dessert Zach had 2 years ago- a butterscotch budino. It's similar to a pudding but honestly is one of the best desserts I have ever had. I could have eaten 3 of them. We talked to another couple for awhile and got recommendations for more great food in our area.

The night wasn't over! We then saw this cute little bar/shack right on the lake and headed in. They had a great tap list surprisingly, so Zach had another and we talked to the college age bartender for awhile. The best part was that we booked something special for my 30th birthday, and I can't wait. :)

On the day of our actual anniversary, we had white chicken chili with Abe and reminisced on three years ago. They were the fastest three years of our lives, and we feel lucky to still feel like our marriage is new. We had such a wonderful day in La Crosse with all of our family and friends and so enjoy celebrating the anniversary of that every year.
