How can this be? I am just in awe of the last year. Our peanut, our long awaited little baby boy? Is not a baby. Not anymore!
It's been a long time since I updated, and I have lots of pictures to put up of the party and to do a little recap of his party. I also want to do a little reflection on our last year. But I'm much too tired tonight to do that!
Both Zach and I feel like there was a definite change between 11 months old and now, and that it happened rather quickly. He truly became much less baby-like almost overnight. We thought he would take his time learning to walk and he surprised us by walking on August 29. (Now, 3 weeks later, he's EVERYWHERE!) He has been learning new ways to communicate everyday. Our favorites are him going to the pantry and pointing to his graham crackers and the way he says "Dotto!" every time he sees his milk.
We wanted to be able to spend some time with Abe on his actual birthday, and I'm so glad we did. We both were so pumped to walk into his room in that morning and say "Happy Birthday!!" He grinned from ear to ear.
I had to work in the morning, but we decided to go get breakfast first. However, we didn't do anything TOO special, just headed to the local Mickey D's for breakfast sandwiches and hashbrowns. I don't think Abe was overly impressed.
Abe and I had lunch at home together when I got home (nothing memorable!) and we went over to Teddy Bear Park, a park with giant teddy bears, a fun train playground, a big spider web, and lots of little slides for Abe to play on. He was still a little bit too small, but he enjoyed watching the other kids, and trying out his new shoes while walking around the park. He looked SO old with jeans and shoes on, and with his long blonde-ish mop of hair. We went to a toy store and he played with a train set before heading home.
We picked up his cake for the evening at the grocery store, where I proceeded to drop on the floor immediately. Luckily I only smudged the frosting, but I was so bummed! Zach was horrified, because he seems to believe I just make a scene whereever I go.
We enjoyed BIG greasy pizzas for dinner and Abe loved the pizza sausage. At 6:40 PM, I lit his candle and turned off the lights and we sang to our little buddy. That was the one and only time I felt emotional about his birthday. It was just surreal to be singing to MY son, MY one year old. We know that Abe wished for a healthy year two, a Packer Superbowl win, and lots and lots of puffcorn!
He got to open up a couple of gifts, and he had a blast playing in his brand new tent. Jett liked it too! It was such a great day for our guy. He didn't know it was his special day, but I will forever treasure the memories of his very first birthday.
