BOY!
Zach and I have been thinking for weeks how we will tell people if we were expecting a girl or a boy. Our original plan was to find out the day before we left for Mexico but keep it a secret from everybody till we got back. Did we know who were talking about? We can't keep secrets and we most definitely aren't patient.
However, we did decide to keep the date we were finding out a secret. That way we could talk about it all we wanted and no one would be bugging us about what time the appointment was, or what our prediction was or anything. It would be our secret! Also, since so many people found out about the pregnancy fairly early on, we knew we could surprise our parents and siblings with the news of the baby's sex.
Our appointment was 5:45 on a Friday night. We drove down there and I drank Mello Yello and ate crackers to ensure that the little guy or girl would move into position so we could see the goods. Once we got there, I was just so nervous. What if something was wrong? What if I wasn't ready to know what was cooking in there? Since I still have never felt pregnant, it was almost like THIS was the defining moment. It isn't a phantom thing, I have a son or daughter in there!
We sent this picture to our parents right before:
with the poem:
Is Baby Detko pink or blue,
as of now we have no clue,
but in an hour we will see
if the baby is He or She!
Except Zach changed the words "an hour" to "a few" because it was a few hours before hand. Of course then it could mean anything-few hours, few days, few weeks? So it might have been misunderstood, but that's Ok!
We got into the u/s room and of course the baby was face down towards my back, we couldn't even get a profile of the face! The tech was new but she told us she would move the wand around until she got the pictures. Right away once she moved to the left side of my belly, I could see it. She took a picture and the person in the room helping her said "I see what you're seeing." Zach still sat oblivious. The guy told us, looks like you have a football center! I didn't get that comment and either did Zach but then the tech said, "are you seeing what I'm seeing?" and I said "Yep!" Zach asked, and we told him "it's a boy!!" Apparently he did a little fist pump with excitement. Here's the shot:
We barely could get out to the car before Zach was calling Dan and Lor and I was busy getting the "it's a boy" Peep picture we had taken. Everyone's reactions were wonderful!! Both sets of parents were so excited. Our siblings all were happy to hear we were right with our instincts that a boy was gestating in there. One of my favorite reactions was Grandma Weinberger: when Zach called the house Grandpa had answered and yelled to her "it's a boy!" And you could hear her screaming in the background, "it's a boy!! By golly, it's a boy!"
We maybe overdid ourselves in shopping after the ultrasound: we used out personal shopping budgets for some new outfits. I picked out a plaid one piece shorts set, a sweater with khakis, a raccoon vest and a tiny crab romper and Zach got an adorable whale onesie with sweat pants and a Chicks Dig Me shirt.
We can't wait to snuggle with our guy and to see who he looks like and how big he will be! I've been getting my first nightmares which include imagining push a Zach size person out of my body-Yikes!
